Since humans spend up to one third of their lives sleeping, we need to make sure our bedrooms are as safe, cozy, and comfortable as possible. There are a few simple steps you can take to make sure you and your family are getting the best sleep possible.

1) Keep your shoes out: The rubber soles of shoes can pick up chemicals and toxins from the outside pavement. You want to keep all of this out of your bedroom, so make sure you leave your shoes at the door.

2) Flip your mattress: Every 6 months, you should flip your mattress both vertically and horizontally. This will help get rid of dust and toxins and lengthen the life of your mattress! Consider making a note at the end of the bed to remind you what side you are on.

3) Lower the Thermostat: Lowering the temperature a few degrees will not only help the environment, and your wallet but it will also help you sleep better. Sleeping in cooler temperatures helps you get a better nights sleep. Try to shoot for 68 degrees in the winter. Remember, you can always throw on another blanket if you are cold!

4) Opt for curtains: Window coverings are very important. You can lose a huge amount of both cool and warm air through windows. This is because most windowpanes are not made to be energy-saving. By choosing curtains over blinds, you will be able to cover more of the window and easily wash them.

5) Remember the closet: Try to go through your closets frequently and remove all of the clothes and possessions you no longer use. This will reduce clutter and save you more money as you become more conscious of what you own!
