Fire Dete
ctors are a vital part of every home to ensure safety of every person in the household. There are several ways to make sure that the fire detectors in your home are working at their best.
-Every level of your home should have fire detectors, including the basement! Having detectors on each floor of your home will make it easier for people to escape. If the fire breaks out on the upper level, the detectors on the lower level will still sound, allowing you to evacuate the house before the fire spreads to your floor.
-Make sure you have plenty of battery backups and frequently check the detectors to make sure they are working properly.
-Have a qualified electrician install all of the fire detectors in your home. Detectors that are not installed properly can fail to sound an alarm.
-Consider installing inter-connected smoke alarms in each room if you sleep with the doors closed. This way, if the alarm sounds in one room, it will go off in all of the rooms.
-If someone in your home is deaf/hard of hearing/etc, think about installing fire detectors that include flashing lights or vibrations to make sure everyone is aware they are going off.
